Extended High Lateral Tension Tummy Tuck in 70 Year Old

This 70 year old woman came to the office after a very large weight loss (70 pounds) over many years. She displays severe excess skin hanging from the pubes into the flanks. There was moderate to severe abdominal wall laxity as well. An extended abdominoplasty was performed in a high lateral tension pattern.

At 5 weeks following surgery, the wound healing is still maturing as the patient starts slowly increasing her activity. The scar actually looks good for this stage and the patient was out looking at new garments. This case shows that age is not an absolute "deal breaker" in tummy tuck surgery. Of course this was a very healthy seventy year old patient. :)

Operative Design: A High Lateral Tension Tummy Tuck was performed through a lower abdominal incision that extended toward the flanks. The excess skin was removed. An Umbilicoplasty was performed to provide a natural depression above and below the "belly button."
